Romantasy with teeth and tenderness.

I'm K. R. Rand, and I finally snapped after my third recommended romantasy DNF within a month.
I’ve loved writing since I first got my hands on a legal pad in elementary school, so after closing that last book—with a four-word title that I shan't name here—I sat down for three months straight, and...
I wrote the book I wanted to read.
And then I started another.

The Fractured Fates, Book One

Release Date: 07Aug2026
Cover Coming Soon!!

It starts with lies. And for twenty-four years, Ette has survived on them—an impressive feat for someone who can only speak the truth.Born with the golden eyes of an arcanist—a woman meant to see and interpret magic in all its forms—she has built her life on careful deception, passing as something she is not, and disguising what she cannot do… because Ette is blind to it all. When her mother departs for her homeland in search of the rare, bitter herb that keeps her lifelong illness at bay, Ette is sent early to Newl’s Court to have her worth assessed. For most, it’s an opportunity. For her, it’s a sentence. The court would sooner tear a flower to shreds than admire it—and Ette has none of the one thing she is meant to provide.Blind to magic, bound by truth, and dependent on poison, she should not last.
Yet facing smiles dripping with venom, a fey male who laughs at her fate while pulling its strings, and violence dressed as tenderness, Ette claws her way towards survival using the only weapon she has: her mind.
The more useful she proves herself, the more deeply she becomes entangled in a court where cruelty wears beauty, danger feels intoxicating, and fate waits eagerly to decide what she will become. But Ette has never bowed willingly to fate. And she has no intention of starting now.

Lies of Fates is for readers who love immersive, character-driven fantasy that lingers in simmering tension, court politics, dangerous attraction, relationships with teeth, and the slow unraveling of fate rather than nonstop action

The Fractured Fates is my passion project, my hobby, and my peace. If even just one other person stumbles across it and loves it, that's more than enough for me.And if that person is you, I'd love for you to reach out and share any of your thoughts, hopes, dreams, or screams using the form below :)

Lies of Fates is the first installment in what was originally planned as Part One of Book One in a trilogy...but as the story grew, it became clear I was staring down a 600+ page monster, so it’s now officially Book One of what will likely be a 6+ book series.I wanted to include my favourite tropes—enemies-to-lovers, fated mates, and slow-burn romances—but approach them in different ways and make them feel truly earned. On top of that, I'm extremely dedicated to thoughtful worldbuilding, developing a story with no plot holes, magic systems that are detailed and rule-driven, and a character-driven story. While it leans more fantasy than romantasy (because real slow burn takes time), the romance is very much there—and growing. And while Lies of Fates is probably considered a super soft 2 on spice level on some pages, I do plan on increasing that—where it makes sense—as the series continues. There are two MMCs, but this is not a “why choose,” and while there is a play on a love triangle, I can guarantee it’s not the one you’re expecting. It's definitely the book for you if you love tension.

So if you, like me, are tired of seeing the below...-“Morally grey” characters who are secretly just good all along-Instant attraction replacing actual relationship development-Magic systems that fall apart under basic logic-Main characters who succeed without earning it…Then you might feel right at home here—and Lies of Fates may be exactly what you're looking for.

I’d planned on diving back into Book Two (Binds of Truths) as soon as my hands recovered from aggressively reworking a few thousand crochet stitches for a cosplay accessory I made for an anime convention... but I am taking a short hiatus to write a stand-alone book I cannot stop thinking about and need to get out of my head and onto the page! But don't worry—The Fractured Fates will continue. Four chapters of Book Two are already drafted, so that's a guarantee.

Slice-of-life romantasy with tenderness, charm, and slow-blooming hearts

Spring is my current work-in-progress. I got a sudden urge to write a romantasy centered on growing relationships, sharp banter, and the quiet moments that change people. Inspired by my love of slice-of-life manga and anime, it grew from my desire to read the kind of romantasy I can't seem to find in the West: one that spends as much time on friendship, daily life, and emotional connection as it does on romance and plot—one that captures the feeling of spending time with characters rather than simply watching things happen to them. So, much like Lies of Fates, I eventually gave up looking and decided to write it myself.
